St Moritz, where winter holidays began.
Dry mountain air, a frozen lake that hosts horse racing, and palace hotels above the Engadin.
St Moritz invented the winter holiday in 1864, and has never quite stopped being the place to take one. The lake freezes hard enough to race on, the sun shines more often than it has any right to, and the great hotels still look the way a grand hotel should.
- The frozen lake
- In February, horses race across it at White Turf.
- The Cresta Run
- The famous natural-ice toboggan run, down to Celerina.
- The Engadin
- A high valley of lakes and larches that turns gold in October.
- Corviglia
- The home mountain, above the town.
